Infectious Disease

Missoula Public Health's disease intervention specialist play an important role in preventing and monitoring contagious illness in our community.

A list of over 80 contagious illnesses must be reported to the local Health Department by medical professionals, labs, and other designated sources.

These illnesses include things like tick and mosquito-borne diseases, food-related illnesses, whooping cough, and high lead levels. When Missoula Public Health learns of such an illness, their Disease Intervention Specialist Nurses take action to limit its spread in the community. They collaborate closely with healthcare providers, schools, and others to safeguard the community from various medical and infectious threats.

If you’re diagnosed with one of these illnesses, you might receive a call from their specialists who will ask questions to identify the infection’s source and provide information to help prevent its spread.
