The Missoula Environmental Health Department works in many different areas to ensure residents have access to clean and safe water, while protecting our aquifer.
Lab Services
Our lab is state accredited, and our bacteria testing meets public water supply testing requirements for the DEQ.
We test both public and private water sources for both total coliform and E. coli. Test bottles can be picked up at 301 W. Alder on the 2nd floor. Test bottles are $20 and this includes testing fees. We accept bottles back Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sample bottle must be returned within 24 hours of collecting the sample. Contact us for more information.
Well Logs and Permits
- The Health Department does not manage or store well logs, but they can be found online with the Groundwater Information Center (GWIC).
- If you would like to apply for well permit. Well permits are usually submitted at the same time as septic application; however, if your circumstances require only a well permit, you can request a copy of the application be emailed to you here.
