When our community faces public health issues like disease outbreaks, Missoula Public Health is a leader in keeping our community safe and healthy.
The team of Disease Intervention Specialists at MPH works hard to monitor over 80 communicable diseases. These illnesses include things like tick and mosquito-borne diseases, food-related illnesses, whooping cough, and high lead levels.
When Missoula Public Health learns of such an illness, the Disease Intervention Specialist Nurses take action to limit its spread in the community. These nurses collaborate closely with healthcare providers, schools, and others to safeguard the community from various medical and infectious threats. If you’re diagnosed with one of these illnesses, you might receive a call from an MPH nurse who will ask questions to identify the infection’s source and provide information to help prevent its spread.
