The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) is the nation’s most successful public health nutrition program. WIC provides monthly healthy food benefits, nutrition education, and community support.
How it works
Income eligible individuals and families can participate in WIC. Click here to see the current income guidelines.
If you receive Medicaid, SNAP, or TANF benefits you may automatically qualify for WIC!
Eligible WIC participants include:
- Pregnant people
- Breastfeeding people
- People who have recently been pregnant
- Infants
- Children 0-5
- NOTE: Fathers, custodial grandparents, foster parents or guardians may apply
There is no application to fill out. We do ask that you make an appointment with a member of the MPH WIC staff.
Bring the following items to your first appointment:
- Identification
- Proof of Montana residency
- Income documentation (if you do not receive Medicaid, SNAP, or TANF)
Once approved, you receive your benefits monthly on an EBT card for WIC-authorized food that you can use at WIC-authorized stores. Click here to search for WIC retailers near you.
Authorized foods include milk, cheese, yogurt, infant formula, cereals, bread, pasta, and much more. Click here to see what brands and types of food are available to purchase with your EBT card.
WIC appointments are done every three months. Additional food benefits may be added at that time. Need some help? Check out the wicsmart.com app.
