Food Service Applications & Permits
A license, permit or registration is required to serve food or beverages to the public with few exceptions. Before a license, permit or registration is issued, an application must be submitted to our department for review.
Other Licenses and Regulatory Agencies
- You may need to comply with codes from other agencies like building, fire, zoning, and the Department of Revenue. While it is not the health department’s responsibility to enforce their regulations, there may be instances where you cannot be approved to operate until you comply with their rules.
- A business license is required if you operate in the City of Missoula.
Mobile - Food Truck
Mobile food businesses include food carts, trailers, trucks, and food kiosks. Business owners must submit plans for review and approval. This needs to happen before construction, remodeling, or change of ownership.
Retail Food - Brick and Mortar
Retail Food - Brick and Mortar
A retail food business operates at the same location for more than 21 consecutive days. Examples of retail food businesses are restaurants, coffee shops, cafeterias, delis, grocery stores, and school kitchens.
