Missoula Public Health and the City of Missoula Fire Department partnered to bring important safety information to the community at the Out to Lunch event held on Wednesday, July 8th. Leah Fitch-Brody, MPH Substance Use Disorder Prevention Coordinator, and John Kaiser, a Fire Fighter from the Missoula Fire Department shared information about how to recognize an overdose, respond in an emergency situation, perform CPR, and use naloxone to help save a life. Along with some short trainings on the information and techniques, Naloxone and other medication safety supplies were given out to community members. We appreciate everyone who took the time to stopped by to learn more and ask questions.

The partnership will continue between Missoula Public Health and the City of Missoula Fire Department through the launch of a Naloxone Leave Behind Program. Beginning Tuesday, July 28, firefighters will provide free naloxone kits and overdose prevention information to people who have experienced an overdose, as well as to family members, friends, and other bystanders who may be in a position to respond to a future overdose.

Working together, we can increase access to these lifesaving tools, reduce overdose deaths, and help build a safer, healthier community.
