If you've lived in Missoula for a while, you may remember the annual Haz Waste Days.
Missoula Public Health and Home ReSource partnered to open a year-round household chemical disposal facility to replace the once a year event. The Household Chemical Disposal facility is located at 1515 Wyoming Street in Missoula and is open by appointment on Mondays. Click here to make an appointment.
What are household chemicals?
Common, everyday products that you use can be dangerous to you and the environment if you just throw them in the trash. Common household hazardous waste items include:
- oil-based paint
- aersol cans
- strong cleaners containing lye
- drain openers
- weed killers
- gasoline, brake fluid and other automotive chemicals
- wood stains
- mineral spirits
- thermometers or flueroscent containing mercury
Why can't I pour them down the drain?
Besides the potential to damage to the plumbing in your house, these liquids contaminate our aquifer, rivers and the larger ecosystem of the Missoula valley. Keep our favorite recreation sites and our drinking water free from pollutants by disposing of chemical waste properly.
